Brrr, It's Cold In Here; There Must Be Vanity In The At-mos-phere

Yes, it's freezing cold. According to the weather channel it feels like a brisk -31°F (-35°C) here as I type this. But wait, is this driver cold, or do they want you to know how their engine sounds when they are passing you on the right going 85 in a 55? Maybe this is their summer car?

I'm not sure what this driver was going for, what do you think?

Thanks for the photo, Amanda R.

I have nothing against Illinois, and the red/white/blue Abe Lincoln plates actually look nice, but I really hate Illinois personalized plates.

At least this owner ponied up the extra $75-$100 bucks for a vanity plate with all letters. For a ridiculously low fee (I think it's an extra $10-$15 annually, I don't know for sure because I'd never want personalized plates on my car) you can get plates with a personalized message as long as it ends in one or more numbers (with light trucks the plate must begin with one or more numbers).

Many are standard fare like "FISHIN 2" or "IXLR 8". Others use names often followed by their year of birth or high school graduation "ASHLI 99". Some go one step further with nicknames "COOTER 7" or "BEKSTR 3". I avoid all of them like the plague, as they are usually trashy looking people in trashy cars that never should've been issued a drivers' license let alone license plates.

My gut reaction was, "For that nice of a car, you'd think the heater would work!"

I think this guy likes to go motorboating - bbbrrr!!!

Check out what the Urban Dictionary says about motorboating: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=motorboating

Wow.

I really hope this person is just always cold natured and that this doesn't mean anything else...

Wow.

Maybe he's from Chicago, bragging about how cold it gets up there. Which makes me hope he drives up to Canada someday so they can point and laugh.

Maybe this person resents the cold temperatures, and is hinting they would like to return to Southern California.

I thought what jeremyandgirls said. That's always fun. Whether a boat is involved or not!

Thanks for following my blog. You are my first! I see lots of awful license plates around here, but I can never get a picture. As soon as I do I will sent you one.

Merry Christmas!

I like how the license plate frame has a phone number on it... maybe we can call them to complain about the temperature?

Oh, those fancy-pants rich people with a car/plate for every season! I bet they iron their money before it goes in the wallet, too.

I bet the phone number is for the dealership where the car was purchased, so you can call and tell them one of their customers ruined an expensive car with a stupid vanity plate! :-)

i'm thinking it means what you thought it meant: that its cold outside.

after all, even a stopped clock is right twice a day. unless its one that has a pm/am function, then its only right once a day.

I saw a hell of a winter-themed car today. Some dude was driving on the Northern Parkway with a giant MENORAH strapped to the top of his car. The damn thing was LIT, too (with lights--not with actual fire)--and quite distracting to other drivers. I couldn't get close enough to see if he had a screwy license plate, though...

Hey, Grammarphile, I saw a car yesterday with a 3-ft lit candle on top of it yesterday. I thought I was seeing things; thanks for convincing me otherwise!

OMG, Flartus--so there are TWO of these type of things being driven around? Yikes! Totally distracting to other drivers, i think--do you agree? (I couldn't take my eyes off the menorah--which means I wasn't really looking at the ROAD...)

I thought I recognized that plate and now I know why. No, it's not mine, but I live in that area. The area code on the plate is for one of the suburbs of Chicago...usually around Elgin.

The temperature on Sunday (the 21st) got to -6 with a -30 windchill. Right now it's a balmy 13 degrees. I'm about to go put on my shorts and hit the beach! LOL

CAR is an auto leasing company located in Lincolnwood, nowhere near Elgin.

That plate does fit the weather for half the year here in Chicago. I'd be one of the people making fun of it in the middle of summer when it's 95F outside.

Chicagolady...

They must have an office near Elgin, because that's where the 847 area code is...I should know, that's my area code LOL

I wonder if he has a "2 HOT" plate he uses in the summer.

Great site, found it a few days ago.

PS: I love the "Bring It On" reference ;)
